The reality of UK teachers becoming home educators

Have you ever doubted your decision to home educate? Have you ever been asked by a stranger or perhaps even a friend or family member, “well, how can you teach your kids, you’re not a teacher?” If so, this episode is for you.

Amie is a teacher turned unschooler. After studying to become a primary school teacher she entered the system delighted with following the career path she had chosen. It didn’t take too long for her to see that it is not a one size fits all when her own son began facing some problems.

You can find Amie’s IG details in the podcast show notes.

My takeaway

As someone who has been home educating for 7 years now I have inevitably had my doubts and questioned if I am doing the right thing, especially when people pipe up with negativity. I always thought to myself, “well, there is a reason we meet many teachers or ex teachers within the home ed community.” The conversation with Amie absolutely solidified that for me. It is reassuring to hear a teacher say that any loving and dedicated parent can do this, no degree required.
