How to find your fitness flow when travelling

🧳 Where Travel Meets the Mat

There’s something magical about rolling out a yoga mat in unfamiliar places beaches, balconies, mountaintops and with people from all over the world. I used to think yoga was something I did on the mat, but travel taught me that it’s how I live, breathe, and move through the world and more often than not, actually without a mat.

Whether I’m exploring a new country or navigating everyday chaos as a mum, yoga grounds me and movement keeps me strong, clear, and connected. That’s why I want to share with you how you can keep healthy and fit whilst travelling in multiple ways.

āœˆļø Fitness on the Road: How I Stay Strong & Sane While Travelling

Let’s be real travel can be exhausting. Changing beds, long flights, new foods, erratic routines… it’s a lot. Not to mention I am kept busy educating my boys. You can read more about our worldschooling life here: Worldschooling: How Travel Becomes the Ultimate Classroom for Your Kids

That’s why I mix functional movement in Calisthenic movement and handstands, yoga, and mobility work to keep my body energised and my mind centred. Whether I’ve got 5 minutes or 30, I focus on:

  • Dynamic stretches to counteract travel stiffness and strengthen my muscles
  • Core-focused flows to keep strong for pole (I teach classes at home and online), handstands and yoga
  • Evening yin to soothe tired legs and nervous energy
  • Cardio bursts in the form of skipping or a little dance session – I particularly love twerk and afrodance it is SO much fun!

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø My Travel Yoga Ritual

Here’s what a typical day might look like on the road:

  • Morning: 10–15 minutes of breath + gentle flow (even on a balcony or beach towel)
  • Midday or post-adventure: Standing mobility/stretch break (especially after hikes or long travel days)
  • Evening: Grounding yin or restorative poses with calming breathwork

It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating a rhythm that brings you back to yourself.

Days when I am not hiking or doing anything particularly active is when I will also add in a calisthenics workout and/or deeper flexibility work.

Who I Created My Classes For

I created my yoga classes for people like me — mums, creatives, adventurers, or anyone who wants to feel strong and present in their body again. You don’t need to be flexible or be able to do all calisthenic moves. You don’t need a fancy mat or a peaceful life in one spot.

You just need the willingness to show up, move with intention, and breathe.

You can find live online sessions here.

If you are looking for follow along programmes in your own time you can find them here.

Final Thoughts

I often see people writing on their social media words to the affect of “I put on so much weight on holiday, I need to get back on it” or “I didn’t move a muscle whilst away, it’ll be hard to get back to the gym.” But it doesn’t have to be like that. Shouldn’t be like that. Being active isn’t something you have to do, it’s something you get to do.

When you find that movement you love and it becomes part of who you are and makes you feel amazing you will want to do it. That’s why I love yoga, handstands and calisthenics, I can take it wherever I go and it makes me feel strong, empowered and accomplished and I hope I can help you find that feeling too.

Stay strong, stretchy, and sweaty — no gym, no limits.

Francesca xoxo
