Stop Using Travel to Escape Your Life And Build One You Don’t Need to Escape From

Most people don’t fall in love with travel because they’re adventurous.

They fall in love with travel because they’re tired.

Tired of routine.
Tired of pressure.
Tired of rushing.
Tired of a life that feels like it’s mostly about getting through the week.

So they book a holiday.

And for a little while, it works.

The Holiday That Saves You (Temporarily)

You know the feeling.

You finally slow down.
You breathe properly.
You remember what it feels like to wake up without dread.

You think:

“Why doesn’t my life feel like this all the time?”

But then you come home.

And within days, sometimes hours, you’re back in it.

The emails.
The schedules.
The rushing.
The heaviness.

And suddenly, the countdown to the next escape begins. Yet, on the flip side I talk to many people who are travelling full time but also feel burnt out. They’re so consumed with always planning where to next, how much money is left, how long can they live off their savings and sustain this new life before they have to return back to reality.

We’re Not Tired. We’re Burnt Out.

Most of us aren’t exhausted because we don’t sleep enough.

We’re exhausted because:

  • Our lives are too full
  • Our days are too rigid
  • Our mental load never switches off
  • And our nervous systems never get a real break

So we use travel as a pressure release valve.

And honestly? There is nothing wrong with that.

But here’s the gentle truth:

If the only time you feel like yourself is when you’re away from your life…
It’s not a holiday problem. It’s a life design problem.

Our Relationship With Travel Changed Everything

Before kids, we did very “normal” holidays.

Fly somewhere. Stay in one place. Switch off. Come home. Repeat.

Then we did our first big road trip with a baby driving from the UK to Spain and something changed.

We realised:

  • The journey mattered
  • Slowing down mattered
  • And how you live matters more than where you go

Over time, travel stopped being an escape.

It became a mirror.

It showed us:

  • How rushed our normal life was
  • How little space we’d built into our days
  • And how different we felt when we weren’t living in constant urgency

That’s what eventually led us towards:

  • Slower travel
  • Worldschooling
  • And redesigning our life instead of just escaping it

(You can read more about that here → How Driving From The UK to Spain Changed The Way We Travel With Kids

The point is you can create a life where you don’t hate being at home because it means routine, pressure, time constraints etc. We have done exactly that. We tried full time travel but for us it was overwhelming and felt like a sure way to burnout. Creating a life where we can work remotely, have no strict schedules, have a place to call home that isn’t a financial burden and be able to decide to go off on an adventure at a whim. That for us was the life we redesigned.

You Don’t Need More Holidays. You Need More Life.

This might sound a bit uncomfortable, but it’s said with a lot of love:

You can’t fix a life that’s too full by running away from it a few times a year.

If your life only feels good when you’re not in it…
That’s not a motivation problem.
That’s not a gratitude problem.

That’s a structure problem.

Why So Many Mums Feel This Way

So many of us are living in:

  • Packed days
  • Endless responsibility
  • Invisible mental load
  • And constant “just keep going” mode

We’re not dramatically burnt out. We’re in that quieter place where:

  • We function
  • We cope
  • We get things done
  • But something feels… off

And we don’t always know what.

Before You Change Your Life, You Need Clarity

Before you:

  • Change jobs
  • Change countries
  • Change schools
  • Change everything

You need to understand:

What is draining you and what kind of life actually feels like the fit for you?

That’s why I created a free, printable workbook called: The Burnout Audit

It’s a gentle but honest life check-in to help you see:

  • Where your energy is leaking
  • What’s really weighing on you
  • And whether you’re tired… or just living in a life that doesn’t fit anymore
